Lead Performance: Simply Red
B-
The first single from Simply Red's Greatest Hits joins Mick Hucknall's keening croon to the Fugees' smoky harmonies on a cover of Aretha Franklin's '73 hit. This low-key pleaser exerts a romantic pull, but no one involved achieves Lady Soul's spiritual sexiness, and the voices never quite mesh. A well-executed commercial stunt, basically.
