The 16 songs on this benefit album -- in versions appearing here for the first time -- cover a wide swath of Boston's alterna-rock scene. Problem is, for every gem from Aimee Mann or Belly, there's a clunker from Fuzzy or Juliana Hatfield. Still, Safe & Sound's heart is in the right place even when its ears aren't.
