CORROSION OF CONFORMITY Wiseblood (Columbia) While many latter-day headbangers continue to churn out artless thrash-and-bash hokum, this long-running North Carolina band is making metal exciting again. COC's guitarists shred cliches as well as notes, adding groove, nuance, and melody without diluting the music's brute force. Here's hoping Metallica fans who buy this for James Hetfield's cameo on ''Man or Ash'' will know what they've lucked into. A-
