Fusing folk music with fem rock, Michelle Shocked has had a disappointingly flat career arc. With this collection of her best work from her three Mercury records (and tracks from others' albums), Shocked concluded her relationship with the label. Mercury Poise: 1988-1995 is a fine compilation that marks the end of one chapter and, hopefully, the beginning of a better one. B+
