Whither Jenny McCarthy? The ex-cohost of Singled Out graced at least eight magazine covers, hawked the MTV show with Jay Leno, and promoted a CD, Jenny McCarthy's Surfin' Safari, in stores. By year's end, she had Fox TV president Peter Roth begging to air her not-yet-produced sitcom, while MTV committed to run 22 episodes of her variety show. It seems the only place the overexposed bombshell didn't appear was in ads for New Line's The Stupids. Big mistake. The comedy, which lived up to its name, grossed a mere $2.4 million. ''Her part was very small,'' sniffs a New Line spokesperson.
