Trial By Jury

Talk about two-faced: There's the despicable but undeniably attractive Mob don the Feds are trying to put away (Assante); the upstanding juror (Whalley-Kilmer) he leans on to upset the vote, whose preternatural toughness shines through in the end; and the curdled cop who is at once hired heavy and true hero (William Hurt). Chief among the duplicitous, however, is Trial By Jury itself, which starts out looking as cheap as a plastic wineglass and ends up as captivating as fine crystal. B
