In the Works

This week in Hollywood news -- "The Frighteners," "Waiting to Exhale," and "Never Talk to Strangers" made movie news

Plotting: Poor Michael J. Fox hasn't had a hit lately, but that could change with The Frighteners. He'll play an investigator with supernatural links in the comedy-thriller, to be directed by Peter Jackson (Heavenly Creatures). Filming starts this spring in New Zealand.

Prepping: Fans of Terry McMillan's best-selling Waiting to Exhale can breathe easier now that Angela Bassett and Whitney Houston have been signed as two of the novel's four sassy women (the other two have yet to be cast). Forest Whitaker (The Crying Game) makes his feature-film directorial debut. Exhale goes before the cameras next month in Phoenix.

Shooting: Rebecca De Mornay's in double trouble. In Never Talk to Strangers, she plays a criminal psychologist who's being stalked and falls for a mysterious figure (Antonio Banderas). Dennis Miller costars. Strangers opens this fall.
