Music Review

South of I-10 (1995)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Lead Performance: Sonny Landreth

A guitar magician turned singer/ songwriter, this Louisianan (best known for a late-'80s stint backing John Hiatt) has a wispy, limited voice. Still, he's managed to forge his own satisfying sound on South of I-10: Cajun power pop rooted in the bayou, but less parochial than the neo-traditionalism of Beausoleil or Zachary Richard. After Ry Cooder, Sonny Landreth's the best roots-pop slide guitarist around. B+
