The third platter by these Boston art-metallers, Extreme, is equal parts mosh and mush. Highlights on Waiting for the Punchline include an epic six-minute atheist headbang and intermittent, lightning-fast synth loops. Otherwise, the flashy guitars, wispy harmonies, and smug anti-trendiness statements mostly add up to a leaden, and oddly trendy, Soundgarden imitation. B-
