On his first major-label album in 14 years, the limber and witty alto sax legend Gary Bartz serves up solos that sing and speak, and he does so in the good company of a band that includes bassist Dave Holland and trumpeter Eddie Henderson. While The Red and Orange Poems breaks no new ground, the reward lies in hearing a masterful horn player at work and play. B+
