Details Lead Performance: Siouxsie & The Banshees

Although Velvet Underground vet John Cale produced five tracks on The Rapture, the ones that sound most like VU (''Venus in Furs'' soundalike ''Sick Child,'' and others with Velvets-style Arabian guitar) are not among them. Except for the jittery energy of ''Falling Down,'' Cale's songs seem cutesy. When he steps aside, Siouxsie's gargling gargoyle vibrato picks up power. B
