EW's GRADE
A-

Details Lead Performance: Slash's Snakepit; Genre: Metal

Guns N' Roses' lead guitarist enlists a few pals (among them GN'R drummer Matt Sorum, Alice in Chains bassist Mike Inez) for 14 lyrically jejune tracks of relaxed headbanging and Southern-tinged blues-rock. Luckily, when Slash and crew rock, they rock-especially on the grooving ''Monkey Chow,'' contemplative ''Lower,'' and pedal-pounding ''Be the Ball,'' an instant road-trip classic.
