The Multimedia Cartoon Studio

The Multimedia Cartoon Studio clip-art cartoon compilation is beautifully designed and easy to navigate. If only it were funny. The drawings -- from artists such as New Yorker stalwarts Leo Cullum and Robert Mankoff -- are first-rate images you can appropriate for noncommercial use. But you are better off pasting in your own punchlines. The cartooning lesson isn't helpful, except for Mankoff's tips. No. 20: ''When a famous cartoonist dies, wait a decent interval and then apply for his job.'' Sadly, the rest of the disc isn't etched as acidly. C+
