By imposing some structure on their stumblebum blues jams and stream-of-consciousness lyrics, these junk- rockers manage to arrive at a sound somewhere between Sonic Youth and the Black Crowes on their major-label debut, Thank You (Virgin). Best element: Jennifer Herrema's dime-store Janis Joplin rasp, which they need to exploit more. B
