Details Lead Performance: Mother May I

On Splitsville (Columbia), this debut has the super-tight trio drawing from all over the map -- from Cheap Trick to the Replacements to a revved-up Squeeze. The jumpy and harmonic power-pop tunes are anchored by a bottom-heavy bass. But it's Damon Hennessey's seductively plaintive guitar that gives Mother its subtle kick. B
