Chill Out (1995)

EW's GRADE
A-

Details Lead Performance: John Lee Hooker; Genre: Blues

Singing with gruff authority, Hooker could give posturing rockers like the Stones and Aerosmith lessons in aging gracefully with Chill Out (Pointblank/Virgin). The songs on his third ''comeback'' album range from straight-ahead acoustic to a smoldering duet with Van Morrison to a moody effort with Carlos Santana, all proving that you can be wizened and balding, yet still make compelling rock & roll.
