Looking back at early EW TV reviews

On the Mark
''It'll be a cold day in Palm Springs before [P.S.I. Luv U] becomes a hit.'' (1991)

On Herman's Head: ''There's not a lot of brainpower here for a show about the workings of someone's mind.'' (1991)

On Class of '96: ''Don't rent those caps and gowns for the cast members just yet.'' (1992)

On Melrose Place: ''Chance of survival: virtually assured. But for now, it's no 90210.'' (1992)

On South of Sunset: ''Headed south.'' (1993)

On Baywatch: ''[Pamela] Anderson strides across the sand looking as if the heads of newborn twins are just breaking the surface of her bathing suit.'' (1993)

''Grace [Under Fire] is one of this season's few surefire hits.'' (1993)

On Daddy's Girls, starring Dudley Moore: ''Will you be needing a passport to get back into England, Mr. Moore?'' (1994)

Larry and Jerry Cancel Their Subscriptions
Sometimes ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY finds itself the subject of the pop culture it covers. As befits the media-conscious wittiness of two EW favorites, Seinfeld and The Larry Sanders Show, we became the object of some sharp satire. In a May 1994 Seinfeld, we caused Jerry pain by giving his nightclub act a bad review; in a September 1993 Sanders, an EW reporter embarrassed Larry in a juicy cover story. In both cases, the stars ended up looking better than we did. We can dish it out, and we can take it, fellas.

Get Me Rewrite
''Cop Rock is a solid cop show.'' (1990)

On Class of Beverly Hills (later renamed Beverly Hills, 90210): ''Fox's teen appeal melodramas have hit tough times. If Class can't offer something different, it will drop out quickly.'' (1990)

On Home Improvement: ''It has the cushiest slot of any new show and a winning star. Looks like a hit. But isn't that what they said about Chicken Soup?'' (1991)

On The Heights: ''If this band hits it big, we'll eat their first CD.'' (The show failed but the band had a No. 1 hit, ''How Do You Talk to an Angel.'') (1992)

On The X-Files: ''This show's a goner.'' (1993)
