The music awards, hosted by Paul Reiser, nearly got beaten by NBC's National Geographic's Great White Shark and The Hunt for Amazing Treasures, which tied for 41st. Meanwhile, Fox's pickup of a discarded ABC cartoon may prove a wise move: The Critic (52nd) almost matched the ratings of its lead-in, The Simpsons (48th). But the debut of Fox's new legal drama, The Great Defender, was out of order in 89th, behind parts one and two of its Love and Betrayal: The Mia Farrow Story (87th and 86th, respectively).
