THE PAGEMASTER Macaulay Culkin, Christopher Lloyd (1994, FoxVideo, G, $22.98) The flesh-and-blood Culkin briefly appears as a bespectacled geek who at first is afraid of his own backyard. Then he enters a magical library, turns into a cartoon, and meets some talking storybooks (voiced by Whoopi Goldberg and Patrick Stewart) that take him on an animated adventure. Along the way, they encounter Dr. Jekyll, Moby Dick, Long John Silver, and even Mother Goose. The unremarkable animation isn't exactly Fantasia, but in an age of creeping illiteracy, a kid could do worse than to check out this colorful ode to classic storytelling. B- -Michael Sauter
