It was called a marriage between ''the beauty and the beast'' -- but the union had a distinctly non-fairy-tale ending. Pretty Woman Julia Roberts, 27, and tall-haired country star Lyle Lovett, 37, are headed for divorce court, 21 months after saying ''I do.'' Herewith, the anatomy of a breakup.
June 1993: Julia and Lyle get married -- after a three-week courtship. The bride's shoeless. Michael Bolton reportedly shows up. Two days later, Julia returns to the set of The Pelican Brief.
November 1993: Lyle tells a magazine that he's never spent seven straight days with his wife. Julia films I Love Trouble.
April 1994: Julia and Ethan Hawke dance and slurp champagne in Manhattan. The New York Post calls them an item.
May 1994: Julia agrees to star in a remake of The Women -- a film about a divorcee and her bitchy pals.
May 1994: Both film scenes for Ready to Wear in Paris but miss each other by 12 hours.
September 1994: A lonely-sounding Lyle releases an album called I Love Everybody.
February 1995: Julia narrates a kids' album -- country, no less -- with no accompaniment by Lyle.
February 1995: Lyle breaks his collarbone in a motorcycle mishap in Mexico, without Julia.
March 1995: The duo announce their separation, saying, ''We remain close and in great support of one another.'' Maybe now they'll have time to see each other.
