A startling drama about sin, faith, and tolerance. In Liverpool, Greg Pilkington (Linus Roache), a sternly handsome young priest, enters a gay disco and proceeds to pick up another man. The real shock of Priest is that the movie turns out to be anything but anti-Catholic. Instead, it suggests that Greg is a better priest, with a fuller experience of humanity and faith, because of his war with desire. In the confessional, Greg listens to a teenage girl (Christina Tremarco) whose father has been sleeping with her. Yet he can't allow himself to break the seal of the confessional. And where's the religion in that? Like its torn hero, Priest knows the agony, the burn, of sin, and that gives it the authority to question those true believers who'd deign to judge without understanding.
