The Soap Box

CBS' HOUSE SPEAKER

Brad Sanders admits it wasn't hard to break his daily All My Children addiction six years ago. That was when CBS hired Chicago-born Sanders to be the promo ''voice'' (and sometimes face) of its daytime lineup. Though Sanders has appeared in movies (Hollywood Shuffle) and performs stand-up, his pipes are more recognizable than his face. He first won acclaim among soap fans in 1985 for his radio spots as ''Clarence,'' delivering soulfully humorous reports on AMC. These days, 200 radio stations carry Clarence's updates on The Young and the Restless. ''I gave up All My Children cold turkey!'' Sanders says with a laugh. ''Had to. But it was easy. For one thing, CBS was more receptive to the radio idea. And Y&R is No. 1. Most importantly, they're paying me! So it didn't take long before I was, like, 'All My What?'''
