Rap and heavy-metal stars may not carry the crossover weight of pop royalty like Mariah Carey. But since SoundScan was introduced in 1990, they've held their own on the pop chart thanks to gaudy first-week sales numbers. This week is no exception, with White Zombie's latest bowing at No. 6, and the star-studded Friday soundtrack debuting at No. 2 (with names like Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and Cypress Hill, who cares that the movie won't be out until April 28?). Look for the two discs' sales to diverge in coming weeks, however: The upcoming release of Friday should boost the soundtrack's numbers, whereas most hardcore Zombie fans probably bought all the copies they need this week.
