CELEB SPECIALS You might expect that the FOX ALL STAR CHALLENGE (Fox, April 30, 7-8 p.m.) would take you back to those Battle of the Network Stars days, when you enjoyed seeing your favorite TV personalities in potato-sack races. But-star being the operative word-Challenge falls short. In this Velveeta of a special, the only two real celebs to play are Wayne's World's Tia Carrere and Victoria's Secret model Jill (Goodacre) Connick. Melrose Place's Dan Cortese referees but hardly counts as a Fox all-star. And neither does San Francisco 49er Steve Young, who hosts with MTV's Daisy Fuentes. Young's teammate Jerry Rice and San Diego Charger Junior Seau square off with Carrere and Connick in such events as "Water World," an underwater relay race, and "Crunchtime," a version of King of the Mountain. Not all events are coed; funny how women tend to end up in those wacky water contests. The real Challenge may be in figuring out why you're watching. --Heather Keets

CHOICE RERUNS The ever-popular HOME IMPROVEMENT (ABC, May 2, 8-8:30 p.m.) re-airs its 1991 pilot in a special slot. You would think all ABC's extra showings of Home would reduce its value in syndication, but Tim Allen's tool smash is expected to rake in record-setting bucks when it rolls out to local stations next fall. And for anyone who can't get enough Married With Children from its daily syndicated reruns and Fox's Sunday half hour, cheer up. The network will air back-to-back episodes through May sweeps. Kicking it off is my favorite MARRIED (Fox, April 30, 9:30-10 p.m.), in which cast members Ed O'Neill, Katey Sagal, David Faustino, Amanda Bearse, Christina Applegate, and Ted McGinley share cherished clips from the show's past nine seasons. I like the one where Al rebuffs Peg's sexual advances.
