Serials
Even though Models Inc. was an unfashionable flop, one of Aaron Spelling's other series, BEVERLY HILLS, 90210 (Fox, May 3, 8-9 p.m.), pursues a modeling story line, in which Kelly (Jennie Garth) graces the cover of Seventeen magazine. This stirs up bad memories of the fire Kelly survived a few months ago. Get over it. Also, Ray (Jamie Walters) lines up a return engagement at the Peach Pit After Dark like we haven't heard him sing a few too many numbers already this season. And the show starts greasing the way for Gabrielle Carteris' exit (she'll host a talk show next fall and may appear sporadically on 90210): Andrea must decide whether to move to Boise when Jesse (Mark Espinoza) gets a job offer there. What's Boise's zip code, anyway?
Crime Dramas
Love and marriage may go together like a horse and carriage in the opening theme of Married ... With Children, but not in the world of LAW & ORDER (NBC, May 3, 10-11 p.m.). Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) and Logan (Chris Noth) arrest a woman (Lisa Gay Hamilton) for hiring a contract killer to whack her cabbie husband, then rubbing out the hitman to cover up the crime. Trying to avoid this kind of situation, Costas (Sharon Lawrence) and Sipowicz (Dennis Franz) start premarital counseling at a Greek Orthodox church on NYPD BLUE (ABC, May 9, 10-11 p.m.). In the May 16 episode, Medavoy (Gordon Clapp) ponders a reconciliation with his estranged wife. But fans of Gail O'Grady needn't panic: Miss Abandando will return.
Celeb Specials
A pair of ABC hours ask the ostensibly entertaining questions WHO MAKES YOU LAUGH? (ABC, May 6, 10-11 p.m.) and WILL YOU MARRY ME? (ABC, May 7, 8-9 p.m.). Laugh canvasses stand-ups for their early influences. The comics and their answers include Roseanne (the Three Stooges), Robin Williams (Jonathan Winters), Eddie Murphy (Jerry Seinfeld), and Brett Butler (George Carlin). Marry, hosted by Dick Clark and Suzanne Somers (who are married, but not to each other), features videos of people popping the question. Brett Butler not the comedian, but the baseball player helps out with a marriage proposal that takes place during a fantasy game at Dodger Stadium. Apparently he's a good-luck charm the woman says yes. Bear in mind this was taped before Butler was traded to the Mets.
Choice Reruns
Last year, Nick at Nite celebrated one of Mexico's most revered holidays by showing Spanish-dubbed episodes of Dragnet and I Love Lucy. Now the Cartoon Network marks CINCO DE MAYO (May 5, 8-11 p.m.) with a sombreroful of Latin-themed animated shorts. Among them: Scooby-Doo's "The Fiesta Host," Josie and the Pussycats' "Chili Today and Hot Tamale," Droopy Dog's "Caballero Droopy," Quick Draw McGraw's "Locomotive Loco," Popeye's "Toreadorable," and Tom and Jerry's "Mucho Mouse." Qué, no Speedy Gonzalez?
