Stone Temple Pilots lead singer Scott Weiland, 27, on charges of drug possession, on May 15 in Pasadena, Calif. Weiland, who was first sighted driving a Lexus with its headlights off, was nabbed after sheriff's deputies observed what they believed to be a drug deal in a motel parking lot, according to a police statement. He was charged with possession of controlled substances (cocaine and heroin), driving under the influence of a controlled substance (cocaine), and possession of narcotics paraphernalia. A court date has not been set for the singer, who was released on $10,000 bail.
Jane Seymour, 44, and her fourth husband, actor-director James Keach, 47, are expecting their first child in January. The pregnancy will be written into Seymour's show, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. The couple have four children from previous marriages.
A 7-pound-15-ounce boy, Speck Wildhorse, was born to John Mellencamp, 43, and wife Elaine Irwin, 25, on April 23 in Bloomington, Ind. He joins brother Hud, 1. ''They're both doing really well,'' says a Mellencamp spokeswoman. ''Elaine drops them in a field and goes on picking.''
Singer Carole King is back on stage after a fall following a Dublin gig last month. Early reports said King fell off the stage when Bob Dylan let go of her after an embrace. Insists a spokeswoman for King: ''They did hug on stage, but that didn't cause her to fall. When she left the stage, she stumbled and later discovered a hairline fracture on her wrist.''
After 15 years directing David Letterman's shows, Hal Gurnee announced he was retiring following Late Show's week in London. Gurnee, who won two Emmy awards, will continue to produce and direct prime-time specials for Letterman's production company, Worldwide Pants.
Joanna Lumley, the booze-swilling Patsy on the British sitcom Absolutely Fabulous, was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, on May 2 at Buckingham Palace. ''We were delighted to hear of Joanna Lumley's magnificent honor,'' says Comedy Central, the show's U.S. network. ''We're hoping she'll also receive America's greatest award: an honorary Happy Meal presented by President Clinton.''
