Forget Paris

Details Lead Performances: Tom Hanks and Ed Harris

The onslaught of spring and summer soundtracks is hardly unexpected. What is surprising is the degree of surrealism in this year's crop. Not only will you hear U2 salute Batman and Annie Lennox serenade the splashdown of a space mission; you'll find the even more out-there vocal stylings of Kevin Kline, Mel Gibson, and former M*A*S*Her David Ogden Stiers!

Other collections could be subtitled ''Music Inspired by the Soundtrack of Sleepless in Seattle.'' The album of Billy Crystal's Forget Paris aims for supper-club sophistication, from oldies by Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, and Ella Fitzgerald to composer Marc Shaiman's urbane, small-combo jazz score. It's an agreeable mix, and Anita Baker and James Ingram's ''When You Love Someone'' is primed for maximum lite-FM airplay. Still, Holiday's ''Love Is Here to Stay'' sounds the most vibrant — and it's 40 years old. B
