Pavement on Lollapalooza tour -- Instead of a bus, the band prefers minivans and hotels

Nobody knows the road like Pavement. While most of the acts on this summer's Lollapalooza tour are cruising from city to city in luxury-packed buses, Pavement (and their crew) is going in a different direction — taking turns at the wheels of a rented pair of no-frills Windstar minivans. Yet another example of do-it-yourself punk spirit? Nope, just comfort. ''We've toured on buses in our career,'' says Pavement percussionist and road scholar Bob Nastanovich. ''We just prefer hotels. One of the best parts of touring, for me, is the hotel shower — and the privacy. You just don't get that on a bus.''
