In an age of public figures blaming others for their indiscretions, Hugh Grant distinguishes himself as a true gentleman by acknowledging that he was wrong and apologizing for it. Whether his apology was for PR or because he is a genuinely good person may never be known, but it sure does set him apart from the crowd.
Let me commend you on your Hugh Grant cover and story. That not-quite-perverse introduction almost, well, embarrassed me deliciously, though. I was blushing and giggling until writer Benjamin Svetkey revealed the true situation.

I sent up a yelp when I spied the Hugh Grant cover. It could be that I was glad to see Hugh Grant away from the sordid arena brought about by his recent escapade. Or it could be the darling baby with whom he is pictured. But it is mostly because that adorable baby is my nephew!
After being bombarded by supermodels, glamorous actresses, and their Hollywood attitudes, I found your article on Natalie Merchant quite refreshing.

Your review of Memnoch the Devil couldn't be any more off target! If you strip away all the gore and vampires, you will find that Anne Rice writes about religion, plain and simple. Fans will tell you that Rice's books reflect the deeper side of religious philosophy in us all.
I understand the need to inform readers about the Grateful Dead's recent bad luck. But the mention of ''graybeards'' and their ''thirst for Geritol'' was out of line. There are plenty of performers over 50 who continue to make excellent music and put on great concerts.
You've been heaping a lot of praise upon a thoroughly deserving actress: Janeane Garofalo. Her hilarious turns in Reality Bites and Bye Bye Love are what make both films watchable. Congrats on being the first to spotlight her talent.
Finally! Ever since I worked with Ed Harris in China Moon, I've known it was just a matter of time before America (and EW) gave this electrifying actor some much-deserved recognition. He's intense, demanding, powerful, versatile, and, yes, has been known to clear a soundstage. This warm Method actor has long been in the shadows of his costars until now.
