Vibrations

MPAA Rating: R
EW's GRADE
B+

Details Movie Rated: R; Genre: Drama; With: Christina Applegate and James Marshall

It's always difficult to cash in on a passing trend, but the direct-to-video Vibrations comes off as an instant camp classic, with the filmmakers putting a wholesome spin on the rapidly fading, drug-filled rave music scene. James Marshall (Twin Peaks) plays the promising young rock star who loses his hands when thugs vandalize his car, and — in a move that probably wouldn't surprise most rock critics — learns that you don't need digits to become a master of modern disco. Meanwhile, the underrated Christina Applegate (as a redheaded raver) misses out on yet another chance to become a movie star. Vibrations deserves a long video life as the most unintentionally funny craze comedy since Roller Boogie. B+
