Paul Rudnick's hetero-friendly gay love story, adapted from his stage play, is about funny, neurotic Jeffrey (Steven Weber), whose vow to swear off sex out of fear of AIDS is tested by his interest in a nice, HIV-positive hunk (Michael T. Weiss). Patrick Stewart steals the show as Jeffrey's sharp-tongued decorator friend. But the clever shape of Rudnick's theater piece is flattened in director Christopher Ashley's film translation.
