Roberts Rules
Thank you for the great interview and cover photo of Julia
Roberts (#287, Aug. 11). Any actor who is talented enough to
hold her own in an ensemble piece among enduring actors like
Sally Field, Shir ley MacLaine, and Olympia Dukakis is not
likely to fade from the spotlight anytime soon!

Have you ever been divorced? Had your heart broken, been left
lonely, and had only your work to dive into? I have. I am 41 and
have been there twice. I admire Julia Roberts for standing up,
saying ''Let's move on,'' and entertaining us as only she can.

It's been a long time since anyone had a first-rate interview
with Julia Roberts, and to have caught her in a ''panic state'' is
very real. I commend Jeff Gordinier.

Body of Music
Shania Twain may be country music's great new voice, but her
looks have hardly been a hindrance. Would EW have run the same
suggestive photo of George Jones back arched, crop-top lifting,
hand slipping into his jeans, laughing at the joy of it all? Please.

'Kids' Stuff
I just read the reactions of seven teens to the movie Kids. As a
16-year-old, I have one question: What rock are they living
under? Some parts of the movie were exaggerated, but for the
most part it shows how a lot of my peers live. Promiscuous sex
is common. And many, just like the kids in the movie, do not
feel AIDS can happen to them. The world in the movie Kids is the
world we live in.

I totally disagree with ''Kids on Kids.'' First, the teenagers
that you interviewed seem to have nothing in common with the
teenagers in the film. Second, why were three of the kids you
interviewed from New Jersey? The film was shot in New York City. Kids is trying to show the world a peek into the lives of a thin
slice of today's youth population not the whole.
