Like the film it accompanies, Dead Presidents evokes the late '60s and early '70s without resorting to kitschy blaxploitation clichés. Gem after soulful gem, from Isaac Hayes' ''Walk On By'' to Al Green's ''Tired of Being Alone,'' provides a refreshing reminder that there are still plenty of great songs from soul's heyday that haven't become familiar simply as background music from Tarantino films.
