Exit the Dragon (1995)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Lead Performance: Urge Overkill; Genre: Rock

On Exit the Dragon, Urge Overkill completely drop any alternative-rock pretenses and become what they've always aspired to be — successors to Grand Funk, the Guess Who, and other wonderfully cheese-ball AM-radio classic-rock bands. With their effortless hooks and gear-grinder guitars, songs like ''Take Me'' and ''The Break'' sound both retro and modern (Lenny Kravitz, take note), and the ballad ''View of the Rain'' is their ''I'm Your Captain.'' Don't touch that dial! B+
