With its full panoply of deadly sins, Seven topped the box office for the fourth weekend running (a 1995 record shared by Apollo 13 and another Brad Pitt vehicle, Legends of the Fall), while three new films celebrating just one or two vices proved bombs their studios can only try to forget. Jade registered another black mark for Showgirls writer Joe Eszterhas -- and David Caruso's film career. Moviegoers shunned Demi Moore in The Scarlet Letter. And Strange Days' poor opening signaled that Ralph Fiennes may be a fine actor, but he isn't yet a movie star -- a major sin in Hollywood's eyes.
