Eye of the Wolf Jeff Fahey, Sophie Duez (1995, Vidmark, PG, priced for rental) A Jack Londonesque spirit imbues this wilderness adventure, which could have used a little more of London's yarn-spinning skill. Sometimes the sprawling story follows a footloose zoologist (Fahey), sometimes it's about a feisty homesteader (Duez). Fortunately, it never strays so far that it loses track of its true star: the gorgeous wolf dog, Kazan. Easily the movie's most compelling character, Kazan loses his master; finds a mate; gets trapped, shot, and tortured; and, ultimately, endures. Along the way, his human costars come and go, but in this life-and-death wolf drama, they're strictly supporting players. B-
