Faust (1994)

EW's GRADE
A

Details Lead Performances: Randy Newman and Petr Cepek; Genre: Soundtracks

Randy Newman Faust (Reprise) Vulgar yet elegant, the pre-cast album for Newman's musical is an audaciously successful stew of gospel (James Taylor as God?), metal (Don Henley apes Axl?), and balladry (Linda Ronstadt in prime ingenue mode). Newman obviously favors the Devil, and besides playing him, he gets most of the New Orleans shuffles. Eat your soul out, Andrew Lloyd Webber. A
