While the representatives of 201 nations were convening in New York City to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the United Nations and its peacekeeping efforts, computer-game players were taking a more violent approach to international affairs: They've been duking it out via Virgin Interactive's Command & Conquer, a combat-strategy simulation that assaulted the chart to debut at No. 6. Armed with an assortment of high-tech military weapons, players amass a rare mineral in order to vie for global dominance. But before Command & Conquer can rule the CD-ROM world, it'll have to overthrow Microsoft, which continues to dominate the chart this month, holding on to the top two positions and colonizing three new ones as well.
