Mudhoney: No. 1 Video in America This Week (1995)

Mudhoney, demolition-derby pioneers of Seattle garage rock, are the band grunge was coined to describe. As befits the slack quartet's riotous spirit, this video compilation — 13 song clips glued together with random scenes of motel-room misbehavior and other ephemera — is an unruly mess that processes the mangy music's distortion into equally messed-up images. Like the band's records, some of the most promising video ideas here (especially the ''10 Years of Grunge 1998'' fantasy concert staged for ''Suck You Dry'' and the cinematic havoc of ''This Gift'') are left frustratingly undeveloped.
