Solid Ground (1995)

Back from the good as dead, Ricky Skaggs starts Solid Ground like a house afire, using Vince Gill and Alison Krauss on backup for a lively set that updates his bluegrassy sound with sitar and power guitar. Then he ruins it with sentimental moralizers: ''Cat's in the Cradle'' by Harry Chapin, and ''Can't Control the Wind,'' in which a dad teaches his son life's important lessons. Except, maybe, to quit while he's ahead.
