On The Luv Show, a soundtrack to an imaginary musical about a woman's adventures in Hollywood, Ann Magnuson demonstrates her facility with several varieties of kitsch (faux folk, trashy surf rock, reheated bossa nova). The result feels like a distaff stab at a Frank Zappa-style rock opera. In other words: slippery, smart-alecky, and doomed to cult status.
