TV Bytes: The WWW TV Themes Home Page

At first glance, this no-frills site containing downloadable versions of hundreds of TV theme songs seems merely like a warehouse for socially stunted pop-culture obsessives. (Who out there is really looking for the theme to Manimal?) But in time, browsing the collection becomes as enjoyable as meeting old friends. If you look and listen carefully, you're liable to come across some enlightening tidbits: Did you know there were two themes for The Mary Tyler Moore Show? Both used the same melody, but the cheerily familiar opening verse ''Who can turn the world on with her smile?'' was originally an insecure ''How will you make it on your own?'' Fascinating. B+
