It starts on a promisingly bizarre note, as a weepy husband (Tony Goldwyn) tells his merry wife (Mia Farrow) he's hired a hitman to kill her on Christmas Eve. But this nightmare-before-Christmas comedy soon dissolves into a random string of oddball occurrences and impenetrable motifs. Goldwyn drinks poisoned champagne and pukes on an angel ornament; Santa-suited Scott Glenn chokes on a cork; Farrow discovers Santa and Satan are anagrams. By the time Reckless settles down for a quietly intriguing final scene between Farrow and Stephen Dorff (as a long-lost relative), you'll wish it were a dream. The writer-director duo of Craig Lucas and Norman Rene seem to have forgotten that fables should have a point. C-
