The Mortal Kombat assault continues. With the hit live-action movie awaiting its Dec. 27 video release, the newest version of the ultraviolent videogame has left its opponents biting the dust. But while Mortal Kombat 3 debuted high on both the CD-ROM (No. 9) and PC (No. 6) game charts, it still faces some stiff competition for the top spots -- Microsoft boasts 40 percent of the titles in the CD-ROM top 10. And with last week's release of Bill Gates' book The Road Ahead, the Microsoft CEO's unabashed love letter to new technologies, the buzz surrounding the company can mean only that the road ahead looks as if it may be paved with more Microsoft products.
