It was all in the family, as two cheery comedies appealing to parents and kids alike effortlessly outearned their competition. The marketers at Disney's Touchstone division showed they learned a lesson from 1991, when they opened Father of the Bride (starring Steve Martin) to only $7 million in the Christmas-week box office jam. For the fuzzy-wuzzy Father of the Bride Part II, Disney opted for the calmer post-Thanksgiving slot, and the strategy worked: Bride II delivered a handy $11.1 million bundle. And holdover Toy Story isn't slowing its pace; for the third week, the computer-animated comedy kept its strong lead in the pre-Christmas box office derby.
