Not to be a Scrooge, but this nobly intentioned soul album (to benefit Feed the Children) has an embalmed aura. Only Donnie Fritts' ''Sears Roebuck Santa Claus'' counters the humorless hand-wringing. And not one of the Hall of Fame candidates (Mavis Staples, Chi-Lites) cuts as deep as Huey Lewis sideman Johnny Colla, who at least seems sprightly.
