Lead Performance: Crowded House
--
Nothing on Together Alone reaches the pop stratosphere of past hits like ''Don't Dream It's Over'' or even ''Chocolate Cake,'' but songwriter Neil Finn's expertly tuned pop instincts sometimes rise to his old form, particularly on the breezy ''Kare Kare'' and the angular ''Nails in my Feet.'' They're good enough that we'll let slide the pretentious Maori choir and nattering New Zealand log drummers.
