Unlike just about every Bo Derek film since 10, Woman of Desire wasn't directed by her hubby John. Robert Ginty himself the star of some of the worst movies ever made wrote and directed this erotic thriller and crams it full of jaw-droppingly pretentious touches. For instance, a clown and a mime show up on courthouse steps in one scene, signifying that the proceedings inside are indeed a circus. Kind of like Fellini, if Fellini were a moron. Jeff Fahey, as a womanizing seaman caught in a deadly love triangle, gets to do a lot of boneheaded philosophizing, while Steven Bauer plays a dual role though since it's the expressionless Bauer, you have no idea who's who. Robert Mitchum lazes through his turn as Fahey's lawyer, and the frequently nude Derek is, to her advantage, frequently nude.
