In the age of Snoop Doggy Dogg and Dr. Dre, a politically committed rap album by an artist close to the Muslim consciousness may seem like a throwback, but Nefertiti doesn't appear to be concerned by trends. She raps quickly and with conviction about black pride and history. Unfortunately, L.I.F.E. (Living in Fear of Extinction) (Mercury)'s dragging beats cannot match the confidence of her delivery. B-
