FOREHEAD VCRS

Sometimes a second push is all it takes to give box office duds new life. Take Coneheads, which pops its pointy head into the top 10 rental chart in its second week on tape. Though it raked in only $21 million in theaters, the comedy is being promoted by Paramount alongside its blockbuster The Firm in retail displays. Also, Paramount has extended the time between the Coneheads' video release and its debut on pay per view to 65 days, apparently hoping to snare even more renters. It doesn't hurt, either, that the video audience is a bit more forgiving than are theatergoers, as evidenced by the strong (though not top 10) showing of such poorly received films as Poetic Justice and Surf Ninjas.
